Dr. Savannah Lord is the Clinical Director of Eden Valley, the clinical program of Revolution Youth, Inc. in Burlington, Vermont. This post introduces her training, the way she works, and how to book time with her.
Straight talk and real partnership
Dr. Lord is not going to nod along and hand you a worksheet. Her approach is compassionate and curious, and also honest and direct. Real change takes more than a sympathetic ear. It takes a partner who is willing to be straight with you, laugh with you when it fits, and roll up their sleeves to help you get somewhere.
Some people want a therapist who mostly listens. Others want someone who will say the useful thing plainly. Her style aims to do both. If you have felt talked around in the past, that combination may matter to you. It is also fine to ask about her approach before you book.
Training and credentials
Dr. Lord is a licensed clinician (LICSW and LADC, both 2021) with a Master of Social Work from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Science in Mental Health and Human Services from the University of Maine at Augusta. She earned her Doctor of Social Work (DSW) at Simmons University. She is also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (2023) and a Certified Compassion Fatigue Professional (2021).
Her work spans direct clinical practice, clinical supervision, and social work education. She cares about equity and social justice, and she brings a trauma-informed, evidence-based approach to every client relationship. She has completed continuing education in ERP for OCD and anxiety, Prolonged Exposure for PTSD, Internal Family Systems, and clinical supervision.
What she specializes in
Dr. Lord works with adults navigating avoidant behaviors: PTSD, phobias, anxiety, and OCD. She also supports adults with substance use and recovery, and provides comprehensive substance use and mental health assessments. She treats a wide range of phobias and fears, including themes many people find too embarrassing or taboo to raise elsewhere, with steady, judgment-free curiosity.
She builds individualized treatment plans and goals with each client, drawing on:
- Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD and anxiety
- Prolonged Exposure (PE) for trauma and PTSD
- Internal Family Systems (IFS)
- Motivational Interviewing
- Cognitive Processing Therapy
- Trauma-informed, family-centered care
Her listed focus areas on our team page also include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), relapse prevention, behavioral addictions counseling, chronic pain and chronic illness, and couples and relationship counseling. If you are curious about ERP, our guide on what ERP is is a good place to begin. To learn about PE, read what PE treatment looks like.
A comprehensive assessment is a structured conversation in which a clinician learns about your history, current concerns, and goals. It is a starting point, not a verdict, and you can ask questions at any step. For adults in recovery or thinking about it, it can help to work with a clinician who understands both mental health and substance use.
Supervision and leadership
Dr. Lord is an experienced supervisor. She uses reflective supervision to support emerging professionals, which means making space for newer clinicians to think through their cases, reactions, and growth, not only to be told what to do. As Clinical Director, she leads a multidisciplinary team and supervises clinicians and graduate interns pursuing licensure.
That commitment shows up across Eden Valley. We offer a selective clinical internship program, and we offer supervision and consulting for licensed and pre-licensed clinicians. She also teaches and guest lectures on trauma, ethics, and clinical practice.
Her leadership also focuses on strategic planning, policy advocacy, and organizational transformation. She is Vice President of Revolution Youth, Inc., serves on the boards of Revolve Vermont and Eden Valley, and helps guide the organization alongside its board. Learn more on our About page.
